Since LASIK was introduced over a decade ago, Great Lakes Eye Institute has remained at the forefront of laser vision correction and technology. Literally thousands of people from all walks of life, from all over the world, have trusted their sight with us.
What Is LASIK Surgery?
For people who are nearsighted, farsighted, and those with astigmatism, LASIK is truly a life-changing procedure. Great Lakes Eye Institute uses the most advanced laser technologies to reshape the cornea of your eye. With most patients, improving vision to 20/20 or better is now possible without the need of glasses or contact lenses.
What Is The Procedure Like?
LASIK is performed on an outpatient basis. The procedure is fast, safe, and proven effective. While you relax, anesthetic drops are placed in each eye so they are numb during the procedure.
1) A high precision laser, called IntraLase is used to create the corneal flap.
2) A second laser, known as an excimer laser, is used to gently reshape the cornea to correct vision.
3) The corneal flap is replaced to its original position and smoothed.
4) Because the cornea bonds quickly, the healing process is rapid. You return home and start seeing clearer the same day! The entire process is virtually pain-free. In fact the majority of our patients state they experienced no discomfort at all.
Am I A Candidate For LASIK?
If your eyes and general health are normal, you are 18 years of age or older, your refraction has been stable for the past 18 to 24 months, if you are nearsighted, farsighted, or have astigmatism, you may be a good candidate for LASIK.
